Scleral Contact Lenses

Scleral lenses are specialty contact lenses designed to manage a variety of eye conditions. Patients who have dry eye, corneal irregularities, keratoconus or cannot comfortably wear other types of contact lenses are good candidates for treatment with scleral lenses. Once properly fitted and wearing the lenses, patients frequently find their eye health, comfort and vision greatly improves.

Scleral lenses are larger than soft contact lenses and made of a harder material, but are surprisingly comfortable to wear. This is because the design allows oxygen through to the eye, maintains a consistent moisture barrier and never touches the sensitive part of the eye.

While anyone approved to wear contact lenses can wear a scleral lens, the fitting of scleral lenses often qualifies for medically necessary contact lens benefits through insurance. As part of our commitment to providing you with the best possible treatment available for your condition, we will make every attempt to obtain approval for your scleral lens fitting and materials from your insurance.
